Marleen Teugels, expert on Belgium and the EU
Marleen Teugels, born 1959, is a freelance journalist. She publishes investigative stories in Knack, Vacature and Le Monde Diplomatique. She does a lot of research in fields such as health and well-being, but is also very committed to a better functioning on the “Access to Documents regulation” on.
She was the first journalist in Belgium that started with Wobbing procedures. She has used the Wob to get hold of correspondence between the Minister of Finance Reynders and the Rodin foundation – a file concerning the financing of tobacco prevention campaigns by the tobacco industry. When this Wobbing failed, she went together with the VVJ (Association of Journalists) to the Council of State. A s a result of using the European Wob, she succeeded with colleagues of Knack magazine, Ingrid Van Daele and Hans Van Scharen to dig up the European agriculture grants on a Flemish and federal level.
