Manfred Redelfs (D)

Manfred Redelfs, expert on Germany and the EU

Manfred RedelfsManfred Redelfs, born 1961 in Germany, is the Head of the Research & Investigations Unit at Greenpeace Germany.

A journalist by training, he has worked for the news programme at Norddeutscher Rundfunk NDR in Hamburg before concentrating on investigations.

He wrote his PhD thesis about Investigative Reporting in the United States, thus learning about the Freedom of Information Act  as one of the tools journalists in the U.S. can use, while Germany at that time had no such legal right of access to documents.

Manfred is a board member of Netzwerk Recherche, the German network of investigative reporters and editors. He has coordinated Netzwerk Recherche's campaign for a German Freedom of Information Act (Informationsfreiheitsgesetz, IFG),  which in cooperation with other journalist organizations finally led to the passage of this Act in 2005. He testified as IFG-expert in the hearings in Parliament and still follows this subject for Netzwerk Recherche.

Manfred teaches journalism at the University of Hamburg, Hamburg Media
School and Akademie für Publizistik.
