How dear was the past Commission?

BRUSSELS – 11 / 2 / 2010 - Dutch tv-channel RTL wobbed out how much the previous Commission cost European tax payers on travel and representation.  Have a look how much the commissioners travelled and how much their travel and representations cost.

Chairman Barroso spend 730.000 euro on travel, dinners and gifts, and is Commission’s biggest spender according to information achieved through a freedom of information request by Dutch tv RTL.

After a request based on regulation 1049/2001 (the EU Freedom of Information Act or in short Wob) it took the EU three months to provide the Dutch newsprogram RTL News with the chart showing all expenses for 2009 for each commissioner, according to a press release from RTL.

The Commission did not disclose the receipts that add up to the 4 million euro expense-bill. Therefore it is yet unclear on what exactly the public's money was spend by the commissioners, RTL comments.
