28th of September: Freedom of Information Day
BRUSSELS - 28 SEPTEMBER 2008 – On this particular day, the 28th of September investigative journalists and organizations for freedom of information have their different fests and celebrations all for one exact aim, in order to ensure the place for the relevant information and achievable data's.
In 2006 already more than 40 FOIA organizations in all around the world from South America to South-West Europe, and Asia celebrated the Right to Know Day with demonstrations for “open and democratic societies”. Since then there are even more organizations, companies and free-lance journalists gathered together year by year, to make some difference to the access and use of information.
FOIA organizations, newspapers and activists drive people’s attention to the “number of publications at local and regional media to promote the right of access to information and to announce the forthcoming International Right to Know Day.”
Since 2003 there is an Awards Ceremony on every Freedom of Information Day in Bulgaria, where the jury selects the winners from more and more nominations received in many categories like: Best journalist story related to the access to information right, or Non-governmental organization, which has most actively executed its access to information right and so on.
